Actolpus Met is appointed to patients with type 2 diabetes who do not require everyday insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes can not be treated with this drug.

People having kidney disease, severe heart failure or metabolic acidosis, or allergic reactions to pioglitazone or metformin, should not use Actoplus Met. If you are in a condition of diabetic ketoacidosis, you should not take Actoplus Met and should ask your physician for treatment with insulin.

You should inform your physician before using Actoplus Met if you have one of the following states: heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke or heart attack in past history, liver disease, sight problems resulting from diabetes, or if you are above 80 years of age.

In the course of treatment with Actoplus Met some patients may have lactic acidosis. This condition may be lethal if you neglect its early symptoms that may worsen with time. You should sick emergency medical help if you notice even slight symptoms including: muscle weakness or pain, numbness or coldness of your upper or lower extremities, heavy breathing, pain in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, slow or uneven heart rhythm, giddiness, or the feeling of extreme weakness or tiredness.

Actoplus Met is given FDA pregnancy category C. It means that it is unknown if Actoplus Met can do harm to a fetus. If you pregnant or plan to become pregnant during the treatment of Actoplus, you should tell your physician about that. It is unknown if pioglitazone or metformin can penetrate into breast milk or whether a nursing baby can be harmed. Breast-feeding should be stopped while treating with Actoplus Met.
