How to use:
The recommended dose for children over 12 years and adults is 1 tablet (10 mg) taken 1 time per day.
The recommended dosage of Claritin for children 2-12 years is half the tablet (5 mg) if the body weight does not exceed 30 kg. If a mass exceeds 30 kg, the adult dose of Claritin is recommended.
In case of violation of hepatic or renal function the starting dose of Claritin should be 1 tablet (10 mg) every other day (with creatinine clearance below 30 ml / min).
Side effects:
The frequency of the following side effects while taking Claritin did not differ from those of placebo.
Digestive system (registered in adults): nausea, dry mouth, gastritis, and in rare cases - hepatitis.
Immune system (registered in adults): anaphylaxis (rare), and rash.
Central nervous system: undue fatigability, headache, somnolence (in adults); sedation, nervousness, headache (in children, rare).
Skin reactions: isolated cases of alopecia were identified in adults.
Pregnancy:
Claritin can be assigned to pregnant women only when absolutely necessary. In experimental studies it has not revealed teratogenic effects on the fetus. The active substance of Claritin and its metabolite pass into breast milk easily, and the concentration of these substances in breast milk is at the level of the plasma content. Therefore, when appointing a drug to lactating women breast-feeding should be stopped.
Overdose:
Heart palpitations, pain in head, sleepiness in adult patients. Such symptoms developed only at a much higher dosage of Claritin (40-180 mg vs. the recommended 10 mg). When a child weighing up to 30 kg received doses greater than 10 mg, extrapyramidal disorders and tachycardia developed. To remove Claritin from the gastrointestinal tract a gastric lavage with isotonic sodium chloride solution is used, adsorbents are appointed.
