Contraindications
Evista is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity, thromboembolism (including in past history), pulmonary embolism and retinal vein thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis, hepatic failure, prolonged immobilization, women of childbearing age, pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of Evista
Deep vein thrombosis, thromboembolism, pulmonary vein embolism and thrombosis of retinal veins, vasodilatation in the first 6 months of therapy, hot flashes, painful spasms of the calf muscle, peripheral edema.

Cautions
Evista is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver dysfunction.

If during treatment with Evista a patient has a disease or condition, leading to prolonged immobilization, treatment should be discontinued. Resumption of therapy is possible only after recovery of motor functions. During the period of treatment additional calcium agents should be prescribed.

With the development of uterine bleeding a complete examination is necessary. Combined therapy with estrogen and Evista for systemic use is not recommended because of the absence of clinical data on the safety of their simultaneous application.

Therapy with Evista significantly increases the concentration of globulin binding hormones, including globulin binding sex hormone, thyroxine-binding globulin and globulin binding corticosteroids, with a simultaneous increase in the total concentration of hormones. These changes do not affect the concentration of free hormones. Colestiramin significantly reduces the absorption and enterohepatic circulation of Evista, and therefore their simultaneous use is not recommended. In simultaneous application with ampicillin the maximum concentration of Evista in plasma is reduced, however, the extent of absorption and the rate of elimination of Evista do not change.

Pregnancy
It is not known whether Evista penetrates into breast milk. However, experimental studies have found that Evista may affect the development of the child, so its use during breastfeeding is not recommended.
