Dosage:
Lexapro is taken 1 time per day regardless of food intake.

In depressive episodes, the drug is usually prescribed in doses of 10 mg per day. Depending on individual response of a patient the dose can be increased to the maximum 20 mg per day.

Antidepressant effect usually develops within 2-4 weeks after starting treatment. After the depressive symptoms disappear it is necessary to continue therapy for at least 6 months to consolidate the obtained effect.

In panic disorder with or without agoraphobia in the first week of treatment the dose of 5 mg per day is recommended with the subsequent increase to 10 mg per day. Depending on the individual response of the patient the dose can be increased to the maximum 20 mg per day.

Maximum therapeutic effect is achieved in approximately 3 months after starting treatment. Therapy lasts for several months.

In social anxiety disorder (social phobia) the dose of 10 mg 1 time per day is prescribed. Relief of symptoms usually occurs within 2-4 weeks after starting treatment. Depending on individual response the dose can then be reduced to 5 mg or increased to the maximum 20 mg.

Because social anxiety disorder is a disease with a chronic course, the minimum recommended duration of the therapeutic course is 12 weeks. To prevent recurrence of the disease the drug may be administered for 6 months or longer depending on the individual patient’s response.

In case of generalized anxiety disorder, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg 1 time per day. Depending on individual patient’s response the dose can be increased to the maximum - 20 mg / day.

In elderly patients (over 65) it is recommended to use half the usual recommended dose (i.e. a total of 5 mg) and a lower maximum dose (10 mg).
