Indications
- HIV infection in adults protractedly receiving zidovudine
- intolerance to zidovudine or symptoms of clinical and immunological decompensation on a background of its appointment to adults and children (aged 8 months and more).

Side effects
Application of Videx can cause dyspepsia (epigastric pain, nausea, diarrhea), acute pancreatitis (abdominal pain, nausea, uncontrollable vomiting), hepatitis (a pain in the right upper quadrant, yellow staining of skin and sclera), peripheral polyneuropathy (tingling, burning, pain and numbness of lower limbs), anxiety, headache, irritability, insomnia, epileptic seizures, retinal depigmentation (only for children), anemia, granulocytopenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia (increased bleeding, haemorrhagic skin rash), allergic reactions (fever, sweating, skin rash and itching).

Contraindications

hypersensitivity

resistance,

alcoholism,

hypertriglyceridemia,

pancreatitis, including in past history (development of acute pancreatitis is possible, sometimes with fatal outcome),

gout (increases concentration of uric acid in the blood),

heart failure,

cirrhosis or severe liver dysfunction,

peripheral edema and / or congestion in the lesser pulmonary circulation,

hypernatremia,

hypertension,

kidney failure,

toxemia during pregnancy,

phenylketonuria (chewable and dispersible tablets contain from 45 to 67.4 mg of phenylalanine).

Pregnancy and lactation
The drug is contraindicated in toxicosis.

Cautions
The application of Videx is acceptable, but in smaller doses, in: liver damage and kidney failure (creatinine clearance <60 ml / min) because cumulative effect and the development of toxic effects, peripheral neuropathy is possible.

Treatment should be discontinued in case of manifestation of symptoms of pancreatitis.

Videx is with care given to patients with phenylketonuria and pancreatitis in past history, alcohol drinkers, patients with elevated triglyceride levels, impaired renal function.

Overdose
Symptoms: pancreatitis, peripheral polyneuropathy, diarrhea, hyperuricemia, liver dysfunction. Treatment: symptomatic (specific antidote is not available). Hemodialysis provides a negligible effect.
